O Christmas Tea: A British Comedy Columbus Theatre reviews
Less than the sum of the parts..
The group just lacks musical cohesion, in my opinion. It struggles to be something between a jazzy/world music group and a blues band and it just doesn't work. I think the couple are better off fronting their own bands.
I was really hoping to love this show, having had great experiences at both Derek Trucks Band and Susan O Christmas Tea: A British Comedy shows. But they just don't blend together very well. The styles are so different.
The members of the band are sensational. I loved the individual solos and the vocals.
On a side note, the sound for the event was a disaster. Awful technical problems and the mix was poorly done. Everything was too loud and it was hard to hear the vocals and the soloists on the louder tunes.
Tedeschi is a good blues singer and did well on those tunes, but not so well on the others. She is an adequate guitarist but pales next to Trucks.
